The origin of JKA
The JKA was founded in May 1949. In 1955, the first central dojo was built in Yotsuya, Tokyo and the first President of the JKA, Saigo Kichinosuke, a member of the Japanese upper house and grandson of Saigo Takamori, one of the largest heroes of meiji japan.
In 1956, the JKA obtained the first training program of karate (kenshusei) monitor specialized in the central dojo, and agreed to be part of its first round of students.
This was the beginning of the best karate instructor training programs ever created; a program never matched or even approached by any other karate organization.
It is through this program that the JKA is a cast of 20 distinguished professional karate instructors.
On April 10, 1957, the JKA becomes a legal entity when the Ministry of Education of Japan (now Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture) officially recognizes the JKA as an association of members for the promotion of karate . Dissemination and enrichment of the real practice of karate.
Twelve years later, another karate organization is also given legal status. Approximately two weeks after an official status of Supreme Master was granted to Funakoshi, which fell at the age of 89 years.
After almost a decade of milestones, the true growth of Karate was still to come.
