Its history and use
It is believed that the Sai began as an agricultural tool to later become a weapon. The Japanese four centuries ago invaded Okinawa and to avoid rebellions forbade the weapons (like swords and sabres of the time), but the utensils of field and tillage remained used, so they learned to use them like weapons, giving to the Kobudo. (“Ko” means weapon, “Bu” means Guerrero and “Do” means road), therefore all together would be: “The way of the arms of the warrior”. They also learned to use empty hands, giving birth to Karate do. (The road of the empty hand)
